Wing bits two-, three-wing bits
Auger wing bit is designated for rotary boring of wells by longwall face method.
Diameter of the bore bit is accepted 10-20 mm bigger than that of the auger column due to generation (during transportation of rock on top) of slime layer on well walls which reduces well diameter.
Most widely used are three-wing bits, mainly with the stepped cutting rim which blades from the cutting and side surfaces are hardened with hard-alloy plates VK-8 (ВК-8). A 6-sided standard tail piece and a stopper pin serve for connecting with the auger.
Wing bits are designated for boring in rocks of I-IV drillability categories. Bit wings may be fabricated of plate steel with the thickness from 14-16 mm to 20 mm, of various shape and angle of pitch. Hard alloy cutting structure of the bore bit may be performed as detachable cutting tools or a package of additional hard-alloy cutters (cutting tools) as installed on a bore-bit wing upon using-up of the main cutting structure. Configuration of the hard alloy shall also be selected according to specifity of boring works and geologic conditions.
